A highball glass is a tall glass typically used for whisky-based mixed drinks, allowing room for ice and mixers like soda or tonic. Unlike a rocks glass, which is short and wide for sipping whisky with ice, or a nosing glass, which focuses aromas for whisky tasting, a highball glass is designed to maintain carbonation and balance dilution for refreshing, long drinks.

A Japanese Mizuwari is a whisky-based cocktail that blends whisky with cold still or sparkling water, typically in a 2:1 or 3:1 ratio, served over ice in a highball glass. The name mizuwari translates to "water split," reflecting the Japanese tradition of diluting spirits to enhance their flavors and aromas.

This method, often enjoyed with Japanese whisky, results in a smooth, mellow drink that complements food without overpowering the palate. It's also great to enjoy on a hot summer day.

Highball glasses are perfect for tall cocktails like the Whisky Highball, Gin & Tonic, Moscow Mule, Cuba Libre, and Tequila Sunrise, which typically combine a base spirit with a larger proportion of a non-alcoholic mixer over ice.

They’re also great for classic favorites like the Tom Collins, Dark ‘n’ Stormy, and Paloma, which benefit from the glass’s tall shape to maintain carbonation and a balanced dilution.

We recommend you always hand wash and dry your glasses with a non-abrasive cloth to ensure their longevity. 

While pre-chilling a tumbler in advance of making a cocktail is a common practice, this is not generally done with highball glasses.

We do not recommend storing the highball in the freezer for any extended period of time. We also do not recommend ever subjecting the glass to thermal shock, such as by adding copious amounts of ice directly to a recently washed highball that may hold residual heat.
